My PhD will use an AUV to map the geology and geomorphology of extreme marine spaces, from hydrothermal plumes and hydrocarbon fields, culminating in a voyage under the Antarctic ice. The nature of geophysics means the seafloor remains a black unknown, until we travel over it to reveal what lies there, like unwrapping a gift. The video is in a stop-motion format, with images revealed by scraping back black paint.
