Life in salt crystal

-

On the Rocks

By Romana Kacic, Noemi Zonta

The salt crystal is alive! The bearer of life is a drop of water, trapped in the crystal of salt during its growth, in which an entire microcosmos of life floats. Life that continues even in extreme conditions of space, time and dimensions. The protagonists of the video are extremophile micro-organisms, the halophilous ones, which live in highly saline environments, such as archaebacteria Halobacterium salinarum, Haloquadratum walsby and a green halophyte seaweed, Dunaniella salina.
